Mirror’s Edge – A Fantastical World of Color

Mirror’s Edge remains one of my favorite games which breaks from the endless fps ‘kill everything on screen’ drudgery that the endless Call of Duty or Battlefield titles bring us every year. A refreshing break from the mindless shooters, Mirror’s Edge really allows us to explorer the 3d environment from a different perspective. Leaping from rooftop to rooftop, running along beams, and dodging bullets, you as the player largely choose to avoid combat as you leap from platform to platform. It all evokes a Super Mario type gameplay of a puzzle platformer that we also get to see in games such as Portal as well.
The level design is no the only thing that stands out with Mirror’s Edge. The seemingly simple use of colors against a monotonous white landscape gives each level and area a different feel and character. Simply put, Mirror’s Edge is also gorgeous to look at and easily please the eye.
I can only hope that the sequel to Mirror’s Edge retains many of these traits and provides us with the strong female lead that we have come to appreciate in many games.
