The wait has been painful, but we’re starting to see some new season 3 information for Strange New Worlds with this teaser trailer that has just dropped. Time to break down the scenes that I found interesting.
Right away we are going retro with a slide projector image presenting each section of the teaser.
The first notes of music are very TOS if not lifted directly from the original soundtrack, so we’re really getting some old school nods. What’s that!? A confused Kirk on a colorful 60’s Sci-Fi show? This gives off vibes of TOS, Galaxy Quest, and Stargate SG1s Wormhole Xtreme, which could be a lot of fun.
The black and yellow grid-lines were first introduced in the 24th century on Star Trek: The Next Generation, so it’s quite surprising to see their return here. Is La’an playing Carmen San Diego?
If this isn’t supposed to be Trelane it must be his dad. With the iconic finger snap here it appears that the novel tie-ins that retconned Trelane as a Q is becoming canon.
Going analog with some old phones that Pella was just carrying around on the ship? We first see this kind of communication with Nog on Star Trek: Deep Space 9.
Grabbed this blurry shot of the giant button to fire photon torpedoes. Not sure that the UI makes sense.
The new Gorn are very scary.
So looks like there’s going to be additional wacky adventures, revisiting some characters, and some scary Gorn in store for us. I’m excited! Too bad there’s still no release date other than Summer 2025..
