Greetings, Trek fans! Many Star Trek fans who’ve been around for a while as I have, may recall the good old days when Star Trek games were dropping left and right across the gaming genre spectrum with Real Time Strategy games such as Star Trek Armada, First Person Shooters with Elite Force, and top down squad tactic games with Star Trek Away team. Up until recently it’s been a bit dry in the gaming space. Yes, Star Trek Online is still warping along, and we’ve recently gotten Star Trek: Resurgence, which has been unfortunately de-listed, and Star Trek: Voyager – Across the Unknown, but it still has felt a bit sparse. Today, though it appears we’re about to get another game and it falls into a surprising genre with horror elements.
I’m not a fan of horror, and sci-fi horror scares me even more, so you’ll never catch me playing dead space, but this is a Star Trek game, so I feel like I need to play this even if it’s not what I would traditionally want to play, although I might need to surround myself with cute tribbles to avoid freaking out.
IGN Live debuted the announcement for Star Trek: Shadow Frontier, the latest project from Bloober Team (the masterminds behind Silent Hill 2 Remake) and Paramount Games Studio.
The biggest surprise for me was that the story’s main protaganist centers around Ro Laren, and amazingly features Michelle Forbes, reprising her role to voice the upcoming game. Although she had only appeared in a handful of episodes in Star Trek TNG’s seasons as well as, spoiler alert: Star Trek: Picard, her short time in the series had a big impact for fans and the stories she was involved in with the Cardassian occupation and our first inkling of the Maquis.
The shadowy planet Ro Laren lands on is described as a “spaceship graveyard,” where everything may not be as it appears. As she explores the enigmatic globe and stumbles upon other survivors, she must confront twisted creatures, an unforgiving ecosystem, and an elusive entity seeking to conquer her mind and body.
The game doesn’t have an exact release date yet, but it is slated to release next year on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Meanwhile you can wishlist it on Steam here.

Let’s boldly anticipate a new blend of thrilling psychological horror and fascinating sci-fi when Star Trek: Shadow Frontier arrives next year! Live long and prosper, Starfleet officers.
