When someone mentions epic science fiction RPGs the one that comes to the forefront is the Mass Effect trilogy. Developed by Bioware and released on multiple systems including the PC, Mass Effect created a compelling universe and story set in a fantastic science fiction future. Telekinetic “biotic” abilities, technological abilities, weapon and armor mods, and stat points all give the game a science fiction flair to the classic RPG trope. I almost want to yell, “Dungeons and Dragons in SPAAAAACE!!!”
Each installment in the series has improved upon the gameplay and story from the last, and although Mass Effect 3 was decried for its initial ending, the totality of the experience I had playing through the series overwhelmingly allowed me to enjoy the games as a whole. A later DLC modified the ending as well, in order to minimize the complaints by irate gamers across the internet.
You can now purchase the entire series together as a trilogy pack.
